چکیده

salinity, as an abiotic stress, causes significant losses in horticultural production. future of grape production, as one of the most important economical horticultural fruits, depends on breeding programs and using salt tolerant rootstocks. the aim of this study was to investigate the salinity tolerance and the distribution of ions associated with salinity in six genotypes and varieties of grapes (vitis vinifera l.), namely ‘shahrudi’, ‘fakhri sefid’, ‘sabz angur’, ‘divaneh kashmar’, sh068 and gt01.  the factorial experiment based on completely randomized design was carried out with two factors of variety and salinity in three replications. plants were treated with different salinity levels of less than 2 (1.8-1.9), 4 and 6 ds/m for 40 days. results showed that increasing the amount of sodium chloride in all genotypes, increased sodium and chloride levels in various organs and potassium in shoot, while it decreased potassium concentration in roots, significantly (p

Oxidative stress homeostasis in grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.)

Plants can maintain growth and reproductive success by sensing changes in the environment and reacting through mechanisms at molecular, cellular, physiological, and developmental levels. Each stress condition prompts a unique response although some overlap between the reactions to abiotic stress (drought, heat, cold, salt or high light) and to biotic stress (pathogens) does occur. A common feat...

The effect of salt stress on ion accumulation, photosynthesis and compatible solute contents in four grapevine (Vitis vinifera) genotypes

Salinity tolerance of four grape genotypes [GharaUzum, Hosseini, AghUzum and Keshmeshi] was studied under various salinity levels (25, 50 and 100 mM NaCl). As a result, growth indices were significantly (P<0.05) reduced by salinity, whereas Cl- and Na+ contents in the plant parts were increased. Cl- accumulation exceeded than that of Na+ in all treatments. Among the genotypes studied, GharaUzum...

Chloroplast genome diversity in Portuguese grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivars.

Grapevine chloroplast (cp) DNA diversity was analysed for the first time through amplification and digestion of fragments of the large single copy (LSC) region by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology and also by amplification of three microsatellite loci, previously described as polymorphic in grapevine. Thirty-eight grapevine cultivars collected mainly...

Sugars and flowering in the grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.).

Sugars play an important role in grapevine flowering. This complex process from inflorescence initiation to fruit maturity takes two growing seasons. Currently, most of the available data concern the involvement of sugars as energy sources during the formation of reproductive structures from initiation of inflorescences during the summer of the first year, until flower opening during the follow...

How the Depletion in Mineral Major Elements Affects Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) Primary Cell Wall

The noteworthy fine remodeling that plant cell walls (CWs) undergo to adapt to developmental, physiological and environmental cues and the observation that its composition and dynamics differ between species represents an opportunity to couple crop species agronomic studies with research on CW modifications. Vitis vinifera is one of the most important crops from an economic point-of-view due to...

Precision breeding of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) for improved traits.

This review provides an overview of recent technological advancements that enable precision breeding to genetically improve elite cultivars of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.). Precision breeding, previously termed "cisgenic" or "intragenic" genetic improvement, necessitates a better understanding and use of genomic resources now becoming accessible. Although it is now a relatively simple task to ...
